This is our first meetup for project building. We will be meeting at Houston's house since he has graciously offered. Welding and possibly robotics are on the agenda, so dress appropriately (no synthetic clothing or open toe shoes). If you have any welding clothes (goggles, masks, gloves, etc.) please bring them with you. Remember that if you don't want to weld, bring your own project to show off or work on. www.meetup.com/BhamHackerSpace/events/60304042/

I wanted to put in a few links to things we talked about during the meeting. Luckily, I found the google groups, and from there the proboard forums... Grid Beam System: Building a Kettlebell replacement (go to 1 minute into the video) houston - do you have some links about CNG conversion?

Thanks for the links, David
We didn't get to weld because of the weather, but we discussed the directions Houston could go with his robot, and messed around with power wheels motors. His neighbor Laddie did a presentation of solar power boxes he developed and a couple of cars he converted to run on natural gas
For those who didn't make it, here are some ideas that were thrown out during the meeting:
- Setting up a Want/Have trading list on the forum - An "Old Tech" day where everyone brings in something to take apart and look inside of - Creating Instructables as a group - Field Trip: Georgia Tech - Getting in touch with Better Basics (http://betterbasics.org/) to teach a class, which could raise money for the space (after looking at the site it looks like it's geared towards literacy. Not sure how we could work with this, but Houston could probably help since he has experience with them) - Reaching out to businesses for seed money

houston I've got a scooter motor if you're interested. I'm not sure if it's 12v or 24v, but it responds by nearly jumping off the table when hooked up to a 12v battery. @jd may have some words of wisdom about speed, voltage, current, etc. You'd probably need a micro controller to make it do your bidding Post here or PM me if you want me to bring it to the planning meeting next week.

The grid beam stuff looks cool. We use a lot of 80/20 stuff at work for prototyping. They have a gridbeam product line, although their primary product is t-slot stuff. We could spit grid beams out quick and cheap with a CNC milling machine! (well, cheap if we DIY a CNC milling machine)
